Volvo Cars stands strong behind innovations designed to simplify and improve the lives of car owners. Telenor Connexion partnered with Volvo Cars to create the connected Volvo On Call (VOC) service. VOC is a subscription service featuring an app that puts owners in constant touch with their Volvo. This is a excellent example of automotive IoT utilization.
Telenor Connexion initially partnered with Volvo Cars to create the connected Volvo On Call service. It began as a Sweden-based product to incorporate a safety feature in Volvo cars, since Volvo already had a solid reputation for safety.
However, car dealers found it difficult to gather sufficient interest in car owners that would lead to purchases for the VOC. Clearly, the market was not ready for smart connectivity solutions at that point in time.
As mobile technology advanced with time, Volvo Cars began to innovate exciting new ways of connecting owners with their cars. This led to the introduction of a ground breaking app that allowed Volvo car owners to warm up their cars remotely from the warmth of their homes, without the need to go out in the cold. A pre-warmed car seat on a chilly winter morning was certainly persuasive. Sales sky-rocketed, and VOC was well on its way to becoming a runaway success.
The Volvo On Call app enables remote checks and control of the Volvo car along with a host of other remote functionalities. Additionally, VOC is an integrated emergency and roadside assistance service. VOC also makes it possible to connect the car to the internet over 3G / 4G mobile broadband.
From its humble beginnings, VOC is now available in numerous countries worldwide and is highly successful.
By equipping their cars with SIM cards, Volvo Cars creates revenue from products, as well as from services. One way Volvo does this is by collecting diagnostics data from each car. Volvo can then contact the customer to suggest service and tune-ups.
Features such as music streaming have also been introduced. VOC will also crowd source live updates on weather, traffic and driver safety. The platform for all this is, of course, connectivity.
Telenor Connexion and Volvo Cars are committed to working together to keep Volvo car owners around the world connected. This makes for a win-win situation all around, with car owners enjoying superior services, comfort and security. And Volvo Cars reaping the benefits of sales growth, market penetration, brand equity and customer loyalty from providing value adding services.
