In 2019, Telenor Group is recognized by Gartner as a Leader amongst 18 managed IoT connectivity service providers in the Magic Quadrant for Managed IoT Connectivity Services, Worldwide (Authored: Pablo Arriandiaga, Eric Goodness, et al., Published: 12 December). Companies in the Gartner Magic Quadrant are assessed by their “ability to execute” and “completeness of vision”.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is expanding into nearly every industry and changing the society around us. In some sectors, connected devices provide ways to improve operations and reduce costs, while other industries are being completely transformed.

Telenor has been assisting both local and global clients in putting innovative IoT solutions in place for more than 20 years, and continues to grow together with an extensive network of innovative IoT clients and partners.

We believe our position in the Leaders quadrant is a result of the targeted and joint efforts on IoT within the entire Telenor Group with continued strong performance from Telenor Connexion, as well as an increased focus on IoT both in our Nordic and Asian business units. We see continued satisfaction from our customers on the excellent customer services we provide, and we believe this is a key reason for our IoT position.

Gartner describes companies in the Leaders quadrant as:

“Leaders invest in the future of IoT that includes a continuum of value from IoT edge devices to IoT platforms and related analytics. Leaders perform skillfully and often exceed expectations. Leaders have a clear vision of the market’s direction and develop competencies to maintain their leadership. Leaders engage customers and provide value across multiple geographies. They shape the market, rather than follow it, and they often set the benchmark for market growth. Leaders have the size and scale (for example, operations, sales and marketing, formal bid, and product management) to pursue large panregional and multinational opportunities for IoT connectivity. They have established a robust and diverse ecosystem of technology alliances and service delivery partnerships spanning IT, OT and IoT to meet broad market requirements.”

Historical Note:

From M2M to IoT Leadership
A Legacy of Connectivity: This 2019 report reflects a pivotal era in the industry’s evolution. What Gartner now defines as Managed IoT Connectivity Services was previously analyzed as the Magic Quadrant for Managed M2M Services. Telenor’s roots in this space go back to the 1990s as a pioneer in Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications, becoming one of the first operators to connect industrial assets over 2G networks.
