Standardization and interoperability remain essential to delivering consistent service levels across heterogeneous networks and distinct geographical markets, ensuring communications service providers remain competitive in a hyper-connected world.

Enabling Agentic AI

Moving towards a token economy was a recurring theme at MWC Shanghai 2026, raising the question of how operators can use tokens (the fundamental accounting units for AI compute and data processing) to enable agentic AI automation. By supplying low latency, stronger uplink, resilience and programmability and integrating security, sovereignty, identity, edge and orchestration higher up the telco stack, operators can provide the trusted infrastructure autonomous AI agents require to securely interact with and navigate the physical world.

Physical AI (AIoT)

A central highlight of the event was the convergence of AI, connected sensors, and edge analytics—frequently referred to across the industry as Physical AI or AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things). Connected devices are moving beyond simple data collection; through edge AI and context-aware sensing, they can perceive environments, make real-time decisions, and continuously learn from physical surroundings.
