Telenor Connexion worked in close partnership with Exibea to develop Eliq – an innovative home energy management concept. Eliq communicates wirelessly with an optical sensor attached to a smart electricity meter.
This enables all information on electricity use to be presented in real-time, on a user-friendly touchscreen display. Or online on smartphones, tablets and computers.
The idea is that since households are the major consumers of energy, an informative energy display will help to make smart, cost-effective energy upgrades.
Scientific studies confirm that an energy display will help not only reduce a household’s electricity bill by 25% but even tons of CO2 emissions. It was extremely important for Exibea to emphasise the concept of energy consumption to various family members in a home.
We discovered early on that a challenge for many home owners is that they do not know much about their electricity consumption which leads to huge waste. Thus, we saw the need for a smart, user-friendly tool that would help consumers both understand and improve their consumption patterns.

The solution needed to be highly visual and yet simple enough for home use. The information that Eliq communicates is typically relevant to the average family. It would also be tangible and in real-time. Families would be able to track their consumption patterns in terms of money saved. Families could also have an understanding of their energy and carbon footprint.
Exibea is a concept development company. Therefore, it was important for us to have a long-term partner that could take us all the way from concept to implementation and technical development.

Telenor Connexion was involved from the very beginning, partnering and supporting Exibea with their competence and experience. This included both engineering and hardware integration, ensuring that the energy data could be captured and communicated to the cloud, and building a specific application for visualisation and management of data in the energy display.
Eliq incorporates real time capture and visualisation of this type of information and presents it to families in a user-friendly manner. To help heighten general interest and usage, the system is also connected to social networks like Facebook.
We face the future with confidence. As a natural step in today’s connected world, we’ll put even more focus on our app-/web-based Eliq Energy Online solution developing an array of additional software services within the field of home energy management. With Telenor Cloud Connect, we have a flexible solution and can connect large volumes to the cloud.
